Some process shots from my Marty McFly digital painting. The goal of this piece was to capture that very confused face that he gives so much throughout the movie. So, before I started, I watched Back to the Future again and took screen shots of (almost) all the times he makes this face.

I kept this collage open while I painted, and borrowed elements from each, but mostly stuck with the first two.

For color and style reference, I was inspired by Drew Struzan’s posters for the original movie, both released and unreleased, because they were pretty gosh darn incredible.

Overall, I’m pretty happy with it.
